Though it does not seem like the time of year for gardening, I’d like to plant a seed in the minds of those hardy souls who are determined to not just survive but to thrive in the Minnesotan climate. And that seed is? Planting seeds!
The plant of the week is ‘Crisp Mint” lettuce, a rather dwarfish variety of romaine lettuce that can be continuously harvested as it matures until bitterness overtakes it in mid to late summer depending on the weather. The cool thing, literally, is that you can plant this crop now! Just scatter the seeds in the snow where you want your salad days to grow and wait until spring when its brilliant green leaves will make their appearance.
