As mid-summer accelerates into autumn, one of my favorite grasses really starts to shine. Variegated Moor grass (Molinia caerulea “Variegata”) sends up a handsome fountain of inflorescences in July that starts off defined and striking and slowly matures into a diffuse spray of grassy grace. Wonderful as a border plant, mixed into naturalistic plantings, or snuck into the perennial border, it will not disappoint. Prefers full sun and dislikes heavy clay soils.
