Award Winning Basement Remodel: Mom’s Design Build Earns Master Design Award

Mom’s Design Build is honored to receive a Silver award in the Basement category of the 48th Annual Qualified Remodeler Master Design Awards. For our Shakopee, Minnesota design-build team, this recognition means a lot to us. This was an especially fun project to bring to life, and the finished lower level captures exactly what we love about remodeling: creating beautiful, highly personal spaces that give homeowners more ways to relax, entertain, connect, and enjoy home.

Sponsored by Qualified Remodeler magazine, the Master Design Awards recognize outstanding residential remodeling projects from across the country. Entries are evaluated on aesthetic appeal, construction techniques, attention to detail, functionality, problem-solving, and overall impression.

A Basement Built for Entertaining

This award-winning basement remodel was designed to transform the lower level into a destination of its own. The design combines a home theater, a bar with seating and a speakeasy-inspired vibe, a workout space, a bedroom, a full bathroom, and a sauna into one cohesive lower level.

Each area serves a different purpose, but together they create a lower level that can shift effortlessly from movie night to entertaining friends, working out, hosting overnight guests, or unwinding at the end of the day.

A Home Theater That Feels Like an Escape

The home theater makes an immediate statement. A dramatic starry-sky ceiling stretches overhead, while dark, cozy walls, illuminated accents, and sculptural wall sconces create a moody, cinematic atmosphere. The oversized screen and multiple rows of theater seating turn an everyday movie night into a full experience.

Thoughtful lighting is a major part of the design. The layered glow around the screen and throughout the room adds visual drama without competing with the movie itself, while the dark palette gives the theater an intimate, immersive feel.

Why This Award Means So Much

Receiving a Silver Master Design Award is meaningful to the Mom’s Design Build team because it recognizes both the creativity behind the concept and the care that went into executing the details. This project was a lot of fun for our team, from shaping the distinct atmosphere of the theater and speakeasy-inspired bar to creating the wellness and guest spaces that make the basement work beautifully day to day.

We are grateful to the homeowners who trusted us with their vision and to every team member and trade partner who helped bring the project to life.

National recognition is exciting, but the most rewarding part is creating a space that feels personal to the people who get to enjoy it every day.
