COMMERCIAL LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR

We are growing and looking for a Commerical Landscape Maintenance Director to join our already amazing team. This is a full-time year-round position located in Shakopee, Minnesota. 

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager and Operations Manager, the Commercial Landscape Maintenance Director is responsible for the upkeep, care, and enhancement of commercial landscape properties, including turf, plant material, irrigation systems, and hardscape elements. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, is detail-oriented, and values high-quality results. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in commercial landscaping or grounds maintenance
  • Strong working knowledge of plant care, turf management, and irrigation systems
  • Ability to operate a variety of landscape equipment safely and efficiently
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Leadership qualities for building a team.
  • Vision and insight into this commercial world

Other Preferred Skills (Not Required):

  • MN Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain
  • Irrigation certification or experience with system installation/repair
  • Snow removal experience (plowing, shoveling, salting)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Landscape Maintenance Operations

  • Perform and oversee scheduled maintenance on commercial properties, including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, pruning, and mulching.
  • Monitor plant health, soil conditions, and apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems including valves, heads, and controllers.
  • Maintain hardscape features such as walkways, patios, retaining walls, and water features.
  • Conduct seasonal clean-ups (spring/fall) and manage snow/ice removal during winter months.
  • Maintain low-voltage lighting systems, including repositioning fixtures and replacing bulbs.
  • Provide arbor services and ensure the health and aesthetics of trees and large plantings.
  • Operate and maintain landscape equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other power tools.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and support multiple landscape maintenance crews across commercial properties.
  • Hire, train, and develop crew leaders and technicians to uphold performance, safety, and quality standards.
  • Schedule crews effectively, resolve staffing issues, and monitor productivity and morale.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with local regulations and environmental standards.

Project & Quality Oversight

  • Plan, coordinate, and adjust daily, weekly, and seasonal maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed on time, on budget, and to company and client quality standards.
  • Conduct regular site visits for quality control and client satisfaction.
  • Identify potential landscape or site issues and propose effective solutions.

Client & Vendor Relations

  • Serve as the main point of contact for key clients, including HOAs, property managers, and commercial property owners.
  • Handle client communications, site walk-throughs, issue resolution, and enhancement proposals.
  • Manage relationships with vendors for materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Track labor hours, materials usage, and job costs to ensure profitability.
  • Develop and manage budgets for maintenance operations.
  • Review job costing reports and implement strategies for operational efficiency and margin improvement.
  • Oversee equipment inventory, approve purchases, and ensure proper care and usage across crews.

Strategic Growth & Business Support

  • Support leadership in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, including upselling enhancements and securing new contracts.
  • Help streamline internal processes, improve client retention, and support long-term business objectives.

SALARY:

$55,000 – $78,000 per year
