LANDSCAPE PRODUCTION MANAGER

Job Description

We are looking for a Landscape Production Manager to join the Mom’s Design Build team!

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer, this key leadership role within our growing custom design-build landscape firm is accountable to lead field production, including our install crews, crew leads, and subcontractor relationships. Projects range from $2,500 to $3 million, and you’ll own production scheduling, job costing, and materials purchasing across all active jobs.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional who will direct, maintain and lead an efficient and productive team resulting in a quality product while overseeing operations within the company. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, exercises sound judgement and initiative, and helps bring beautiful spaces to life profitably.

Your Year at a Glance

• Install season (spring–fall): Schedule crews and equipment, keep jobs on track, solve problems on site, and work closely with our designers.
• Snow season (winter): Run snow operations end to end, from selling contracts to dispatching crews. Expect early mornings and on-call nights during events.
• Off-season planning: Hire and train for the coming year, refine pricing and job costing, and improve how we work.

Essential Job Functions

• Lead the team
• Recruit, hire, train, and develop crew leads and crew members, and conduct performance reviews with the COO
• Build training that brings crew leads up to Mom’s standards
• Resolve conflicts and step in as crew lead when needed

Deliver great projects

• Review plans with designers and turn them into clear, buildable schedules
• Coordinate foremen, designers, and subcontractors so jobs finish on time and on budget
• Provide hands-on technical support at job sites
• Keep clients happy from first shovel to final walkthrough

Run the operation

• Schedule crews and equipment across all active jobs
• Order materials, manage inventory, and negotiate vendor pricing
• Work with our shop manager to keep equipment ready and DOT-compliant
• Build and refine job costing, and advise on pricing and contracts
• Report production performance to the COO

Own snow and safety

• Run winter snow operations, including sales, dispatch, and crew management
• Lead and continually improve our safety program

Job Requirements

At least 5 years of landscape experience, including some supervisory experience, with demonstrated ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments

• Demonstrated working knowledge of the landscape industry, landscape design, and construction techniques, along with knowledge of relevant tools and equipment
• Knowledge of budget preparation and control
• Must obtain a Class A driver’s license within 30 days of hire
• Organized and detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, lift up to 50 lbs. to shoulder height, remain in a standing or sitting position for extended periods, and travel over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces
• Maintain and display a positive attitude along with a proactive approach to customer service
• Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools, including examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
• Employee development skills
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Experience working with computer applications
• Knowledge Of:
• Plant material, hardscapes, ancillary landscape products, equipment, and tools, along with materials, methods, and skills used in various landscaping practices common to the Midwest region
• Logistics management, including ensuring materials and equipment are where they need to be and getting there appropriately
• Ability to develop and implement creative revenue-generating plans, programs, and initiatives, supported by sound financial knowledge
• Customer service principles
• Human resources practices, including staff hiring procedures
• Safety practices and procedures
