The area features multiple seating options for eating meals and lounging with cocktails.
A slow growing Kentucky coffee-tree will not will not drop large seedpods or berries; it will also not exceed its alotted space. Slow leaf-out lets patrons enjoy a pleasant amount of sun in the cool spring months and shade in the hot summer.
Stain-resistant, Crypton Outdoor fabric was used on the swing and couch cushions, they are perfect for a casual, pup-friendly environment.
Planters, plantings and a peek-a-boo trellis shield patrons from prying eyes while allowing them to view arriving guests.
Broad, wind-rated, Tuuci umbrellas withstand harsh weather and provide ample shade; they stay in place all season long!
Facing Nantucket porch swings are strategically spaced, they could be used by a party of four or by separate couples.
Custom Azek planters, flower boxes and railing withstand harsh weather and minimize maintenance. An automatic irrigation system supplies trees, hedges, planters and concrete planter bowls with just the right amount of hydration.
AESTHETICS
Although the restaurant’s architect had envisioned a simple concrete patio with a long row of tables, we were able to create an outdoor environment that may even surpass the indoor space. The plethora of Instagram selfies by patrons at the swings and lounging couches validates the outdoor environment’s, “it” nature and social vibe.
By design, the gnarly 15-year-old Kentucky coffee-tree’s ‘legacy’ look suggests it came before the deck.
The designer chose a Kentucky coffee-tree, Aspen and Kindred Spirit Oak trees for staggered foliage and a variety of evergreens and seasonal plantings for year-round visual appeal. The client specified the red flowers for a patriotic, New England look.
The floor plan, furnishings and the hardscape achieved the client’s goal of making guest feel like they could be at a successful person’s home rather than a commercial restaurant.
Crushed New Hampshire seashells impart an authentic New England detail around the fit pit and trees.
The movement and illumination of the gas fire pit and lanterns are designed to attract attention and draw people in.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Custom, painted, Azek planters and flower boxes combine classic New England styling with durable, low-maintenance construction.
Trees planted in structured soil encourage root health and longevity.
INNOVATION
Discovered and acquired distinctive, 12” diameter, Kentucky coffee-tree from the front lawn of a private home when local nurseries were unable to supply the gnarly legacy tree that the client envisioned.
A tree planted in structured soil so the concrete slab and Brazilian ipe-wood deck do not choke its roots, greatly extending its expected life.
The patio-view leverages a combination of Phantom Screen and EZ-Screen walls that satisfy health codes while creating an integrated indoor/outdoor dining experience.
Thoughtful design achieves an attractive environment and functional seating on a narrow outdoor strip, which the client considered the biggest challenge.
Swing frames were adapted for rope suspension and tethered to the deck with springs to prevent extreme swinging.
