Curb appeal is the real deal. A front entry will draw the admirable eyes of many and gives homeowners an opportunity to express themselves through home design. The front of the home sets the tone for whoever is visiting. You never get a second chance to make a first impression, after all! That’s why we put together a list of ways you can refresh your entryway in 2020. New Year Resolutions can involve the home, too!

FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD

Dorothy was right when she clicked her heels and whispered, “there’s no place like home.” She was also onto something when following the yellow brick road. Your front entryway should entice family and friends with an effortless pathway. A marked, well maintained and well-lit path to the front door will spark visitors with interest. A path 3 – 4 feet wide (or wider) can be grandiose and welcoming. Use low-voltage lighting to illuminate these pathways at night.

POP GOES THE COLOR + DETAIL

As mentioned above, the entryway should be easily identifiable. That makes the home more welcoming and appealing. Adding a pop of color will give homeowners the opportunity to add some personality to the mix. Don’t be afraid to be bold with the front door! Keep note: the color should contrast the siding trim and match the style of the home. If you’re nervous about the color, a unique door and detailed design can also add some pizzazz. For example, the detailed, painted pillars below add a sense of personality to the front of this home.

KEEP THINGS OPEN AND CLEAN

Clutter isn’t great for a stunning front entry. Overgrown plantings and trees shouldn’t hide a stunning front door. Flowers are a great option instead because those can be moved around and updated easily. A great way to open things up if you’re looking for an additional solution is by adding expansive windows to each side of the entry door. A plus plus: they let light into your home and make the entryway inside seem even larger.

ADD ACCESSORIES WITH PERSONALITY

Now, you can’t go too overboard on this one. However, there are certainly ways to add to your home’s personality with a light touch. We love the chandeliers added in the entryway of this home. They add stunning, featured light and reflect and enhance the quality of the space. It’s important to keep the accessory pretty exclusive. Too many can appear overwhelming. The general rule of thumb for an entryway is to splurge on one bold feature: a wooden front door, colorful step tiles, fountain, chandelier, etc. You don’t need much for a polished look!

ENHANCE YOUR HOME’S UNIQUE ARCHITECTURE

There could be some really cool elements already featured on your home that could enhance your entryway by simply making them stick out more. Beautiful trim, around and elevated roof, exquisite moldings, bold pillars, detail on a front door… the options are endless. Find those features in your home and paint them white to make them pop. A great additional trick to consider is to repeat the elements of these features. If you have a gorgeous arch on your front entryway, enhance that with an additional arch in an awning overhead, for example.

CREATE A LOUNGING AREA

Entryways shouldn’t always be places for simply passing by. They should entertain! Adding a seating area or space to reflect is a wonderful way to warm up the space. Consider a cozy bistro set or seasonal wreath.
