Our client needed to create an entry landscape that would leave a first impression of the cool, unique resort community that is Concierge. We knew that we needed to enhance the outdated look and feel of the entry, attracting the young professionals working in the area. Here are a few must-haves:
  • Make the Concierge community highly visible and memorable day and night; from the Twin Cities’ busiest highway off-ramp and the Best Buy Headquarters directly across the street.

  • Create a ground level alternative to a rooftop deck that would achieve the same overlook environment but without a costly elevator.

  • Enhance the impact of the huge, legacy oak that dominates the entry landscape.

AESTHETIC

You get a sense that this is a special, cool community at first glance. The dramatic balance of natural stone, colorful plantings, exotic wood, distinctive railing, striking colored lights and curved walks make for an award-winning entry that works hard but makes it look easy.
  • This entry environment elevates the gigantic, legacy oak with bistro style up-lighting.

  • Exotic Cumaru (Brazilian Teak) hardwood projects the premium Concierge brand.

  • The award-winning, curbside branding wall combines fire, stone, colored lights, ivy, fire, and wood.

Before remodeling the entry was inaccessible and unapproachable.

INNOVATION

  • A screw-like Diamond Pier system is used in place of concrete piers to minimize the impact of numerous deck footings on oak tree roots.

  • The oak was treated before construction to protect it from trauma; oaks are notoriously sensitive to change and impact of their environment.

  • This stunning deck is segmented into four private environments, giving the space a community feel with the ability to be secluded in your own personal zone.

  • An outdoor-rated, flat screen TV draws HGTV and ESPN fans out after the sunset.

  • LED lights at the entry sign can be programmed with 15 various colors, allowing them to be themed red for Valentine’s Day, green for St. Patrick’s Day, orange for Halloween, purple for Prince’s birthday (or on Vikings game days).

FUNCTIONALITY

  • Four separate, intimate seating areas at the entry deck allow for different sized groups to gather.

  • A lighted fire bowl, wall sconces, LED-backlit logo and extensive tree lighting draws attention to the premium brand from the busy 494 off-ramp.

  • A combination of LED pathway lights, rope lighting under benches, wall sconces, and bistro lights deliver safety in style. Lighting helps residents feel safe and helps to illuminate the way through the space.

  • Glass railings block wind and some street noise.

  • The outdoor television is visible from the fitness center and alternates between HGTV and ESPN.

  • This deck overlooks the pool and roadway. It takes the place of a rooftop deck, which would have required an expensive elevator and would have robbed precious space from the fitness center below.

  • An access ramp is a friendly alternative to steps and stairways.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

  • The deck was built from super-hard Cumaru exotic hardwood and finished with Sikkens deck stain for extra protection throughout the year.

  • Diamond Piers ensure deck stability without endangering the oak tree roots.

  • The bench/planter design provides seating, separation and fresh pops of color on deck.

If lush landscaping, modern lounge seating and the thought of living in a resort-style space gets you excited, consider living at the Concierge Apartments.
