Allium sphaerocephalon, commonly called round-headed leek or drumstick allium, provides a unique and timely explosion of color that punctuates the garden come Fourth of July. The grassy foliage is inconspicuous allowing it to be interplanted with many different perennials to add some free spirited midsummer pop. Can be cut back after bloom or left for winter interest. Widely available from bulb catalogs.
