With exuberance, I would like to introduce to you our new name. In an effort to simplify and enliven the brand, Mom’s Landscaping & Design and BellaWood Builders now lives under one new name: Mom’s Design Build.
As you may know, I founded this company more than 20 years ago with a focus on my deep love for people and a vision to create something special. I have been fortunate beyond measure as I am daily humbled by the passion, creativity and energy of my award-winning team. Our relationships with clients also bring me much joy and gratitude. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today; and for them, we wake up every day hoping to make a difference.
Mom’s Design Build is pleased to offer three areas of service expertise: landscape architecture, remodeling and construction, and fine gardening.
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
At 15 years old, I began mowing lawns in my hometown of Wisconsin Dells. Quickly, the business grew as we began designing and installing landscapes for homeowners and resorts. Within two years, I had a crew of six and had developed an appreciation of and passion for landscape construction.
College studies in the fields of business and finance brought me to the U of M, where I also continued to grow my landscaping company. To house the operations, I searched and serendipitously found a farm in Chanhassen: Ol’ Jake’s Place… that’s what the locals called it. Initially, I subleased a small outdoor area in the shadow of a historic barn owned by area icon, Sever Peterson.
As Mom’s Landscaping & Design expanded, I hired a bright young design intern named Craig Weckman. He quickly proved himself to be multitalented and had an uncanny affinity for construction and operations. His work ethic was contagious and he had what it would take to help build a strong organization. Craig became my friend and business partner, and continues to lead the organization in a disciplined, client-focused manner.
REMODELING AND CONSTRUCTION
The scope of our work expanded as we began incorporating decks and porches into the designs. The design process organically moved indoors; more and more we were solving problems of flow and transition. Initially, we called the interior division BellaWood Builders. Today, under the loving and critical watch of director and designer, Karie Zemlicka, the remodeling and construction division of Mom’s Design Build is flourishing with dedicated, experienced crews and a seasoned and committed team of subcontractors. We are excited to design and build distinctive interior spaces, including smart mud rooms, brilliantly transformative craft areas, powerfully connected media rooms, soulful kitchens, and inviting great rooms.
FINE GARDENING
Mom’s third and fastest growing segment is our fine gardening division. Our team consists of highly trained horticulturists and gardeners who can help with all things in managing your outdoor environment—from weeding and pruning to treating pests and disease. Our goal is to give you an outdoor experience that allows you to maximize your hammock time! This year we are introducing mosquito control as an added service offering, and are also continuing to improve my personal favorite—annual container design we personalize to each client. Refreshing the containers each season, our team brings cheer to doorsteps and poolsides with bright pops of color and fragrance.
My sincere hope is that you will continue to call Mom’s Design Build to help design, build and maintain your home and landscape life. What began as one teenager’s mowing gig has blossomed to a full scope service of home-remodelling and landscape design professionals. With such an award-winning staff and a stunning portfolio, we are sometimes thought of as a design build company to the rich and famous. However, Mom’s Design Build offers great value and creativity to transform spaces of all shapes and sizes, both outdoors and in. We can’t wait to help on your next project!
