While Super Bowl teams were relieved to be competing under the US Bank Stadium dome this frigid Minnesota weekend, Mom’s Design Build is still doing its winning outdoors.
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) just named Mom’s its 2018 Contractor of the Year (CotY) in three exterior remodeling categories for our nine-state region. This comes after Mom’s took an extraordinary five Minnesota CotY awards for both indoor remodeling and outdoor living environments last fall. The Mom’s projects now are finalists for National CotY Awards to be announced at the NARI Evening of Excellence in Charlotte, NC, on April 20.
Mom’s Minnesota exterior remodeling and landscaping entries beat projects from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota to capture the regional titles. They included an elevated porch addition with a ground-level outdoor kitchen in Inver Grove Heights, an Arizona inspired poolscape in Excelsior, and the dramatic entry landscape at the Concierge apartments opposite the Best Buy headquarters in Richfield. Becca Bastyr designed the Inver Grove Heights and Excelsior projects. Heather Grossmann designed the commercial landscape in Richfield.

Some 26 NARI judges evaluated more than 400 projects with a combined value north of $123 million from members in its eight regions. NARI says CotY Award winners “demonstrate remodeling excellence.” Judges consider functionality, problem-solving, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, the degree of difficulty, and entry presentation.
