For those gardeners who love ground covers but want more variety in their color scheme, consider this diminutive cousin of fernleaf tansy, Tanacetum densum ssp. amani. Although there are a number of quality silver-leafed ground covers (Cerastium, Stachys, Artemisia, Antennaria), this dwarf partridge feather has a uniquely Mediterranean look that pairs sublimely with lavender, catmint, yucca, and salvia. It can be combined with lamb’s ears in a silver garden as well.
It grows most successfully in sunny, dry locations with limited winter wet and is perfect for that sandy slope of yours that has proven too difficult for other plants. If you can get it through its first year in such a location, it will likely never require watering, making it a valuable xeriscaping option.
