REMODEL CHECKLIST:
Decipher where you want to start. The kitchen? The family room? The bathroom? The first room you remodel should offer you the most happiness. Where do you spend the most time?
Once you’ve picked the space, come up with a look you love and do the research. Pinterest and Houzz are great sources to build your very own mood boards for contractors and designers. This should be a two week process so you can feel confident in your choice to move forward and make changes if need be.
Work with a financial planner to work out your budget. If it helps, work with a realtor as well to figure out what remodeled homes in your area are selling for. That way, you can figure out how much you want to spend to make an impact. The rule here is, don’t invest in more than you can get back.
Make a list of priorities and must-have features for your renovation. This will help your designer decipher what’s most important to you and it will help you get you what you want in the long run.
If you’re bumping out a room to make more space in your home, make sure to check in on your town’s zoning laws first. Of course, this is only precautionary, but being over prepared is better than under.
