The countdown to the holidays begins! And part of that countdown includes a very, very joyous design plan. It’s always nostalgic to pull out the holiday decor, dust off the tinsel and get festive. Whether you like to keep the yuletide more neutral, traditional, rustic or personal – we have all of the design tips to decorate your stylish home. And we know holiday decor can get overwhelming. There’s so much of it, it’s hard to nail down a theme and stick with one cohesive design. That’s why we put together these unique tips to help you decide what festive fah-lah-lah-lah-lah moment works best for your home.

If you’re a little more...natural

Bring out the pinecones and cranberries! Filling silver bowls with cranberries and tying pine cones with ribbon, to basically anything, adds on such a natural touch. And don’t forget about tulips! White tulips feel festive to us, and they look beautiful tucked in a gold vase.
When we think of natural, we’re considering the outdoors. Surround the sitting area specifically with greenery (tiny wreaths on windows, bushels of spruce and cranberries as a centerpiece). A plus/plus? The greenery will make the place smell like a dream.
If you want a little bit of a craft moment, go for the clementines. Shove some clove pomanders into the delicate skin of the clementines (with fun designs, and tuck away in a burlap covered basket as a centerpiece. Cinnamon sticks tied together also make a great centerpiece – and a sweet giveaway for guests as they walk out the door.

If you’re a little more...traditional

We love the traditional look. This might be the easiest way to combine holiday into your natural design style. Firstly, consider a unique color palette. Blue and white dishes and accent colors are great, sweet touches you can add to any winter decor. Any Martha Stewart collection is great to add into your dinnerware as well. Psst…we know you’ve been waiting to pull out those red and white hot chocolate mugs.

Summertime gardening tools, that are now likely now on sale, are great accents for holiday decor. They add a softening element to home design, allowing the spruce and tinsel paired with to not appear too striking. We all need to ease into the holidays anyway, right? Another innovative and easy traditional decorating tip is to switch out those slender vanilla candlesticks for red or green ones! Candy canes are quick and cheap additions for hanging with holiday lights on the tree decorated with colored ribbon or twine.
Oh, our traditional friends, we’re not done! If you have kids, use synthetic holiday-colored fabrics to cut out doves and trees. It’s a fun craft, and looks really classic hanging on your wreath. Don’t forget, and sprigs of spruce tucked into napkin holders, vases, or candle holders, is a charming touch as well. Finding the sprigs of spruce can also be a fun kid’s outdoor activity (wink, wink).
Older, vintage decor is also proving to be a solidifying touch in the outdoors. Antlers, old skis, vintage nutcrackers and vintage snowshoes are the perfect add-on when it comes to a snowy landscape. Vintage shopping anyone?

If you’re a little more...elegant

Elegance is key during the holidays! And it’s super easy to incorporate with grace in your home design. The first quick and easy tip we have is to throw a bunch of vintage looking glass balls in any centerpiece vase (we love white and silver). Poinsettias are often a classic touch if you let them show off inside of an unused fireplace hearth. They bring colorful contrast into drabby winter rooms. A glass vase full of evergreens is also an elegant added element, specifically stunning on a simple nightstand next to the bed.

If you’re a little more...whimsical

Bring on the whimsical! One element we love about this style specifically is mercury glass. Candle holders, candelabras and fake trees are often made of this material, giving off a stunning element when lit with a candle or reflecting off Christmas lights. Note: when you’re designing the room, make sure the mercury glass and candles are reflecting a lot of mirrors and silver tray displays. This is a stunning way to add some organic sparkle to the space. To really add an uncommon touch, light up your stairs with paper lanterns.
Customized bottlebrush trees are SO cute. If you use fabric dye, you can turn them into new and improved whimsical colors (pink, peach, lime green etc.) Or, you can make tiny mason jar wonderlands with epsom salt as snow, bottlebrush trees and tiny deer spray painted gold.
So, the question remains: what holiday home decor style are you? Maybe you’re a combination of all four. Either way, we’re willing to bet things are going to get very fah-lah-lah festive this season.
